(A) IMPOSITION OF FEE. The Commission may impose on each complainant a fee in an amount determined appropriate by the Commission to defray the costs of investigations under subsection (c).

Comment

As an individual author, the suggestion that, if I find my copyrighted works being illegally published and distributed in violation of my rights, I must pay the government a FEE is tantamount to the government protecting piracy and further victimizing the victims of copyright infringement.

• I think a good compromise would be that if the infringement is proven, the fee is refunded. I'm tired of being dinged everywhere I turn because someone else abuses a particular system. Make the fraudulent claimer pay and the justified claimant get a rebate.
